One of the memories I looked back on fondly, is when I bounced into school and beamed at my colleagues. The phrase ‘you make the weather’ is never truer that in teaching and when I had the privilege to be in leadership, I tried, when I could, to bring a smile and warmth to my colleagues each morning. Sometimes the negative reaction was enough to make me ask more. I sometimes wonder do we see our colleagues each day? Like really see them? Can we tell if they’re not on par or do we just not have the time?
I so strongly believe that if you get the wellbeing of the staff right, and I mean ALL the staff (not just the teachers!), then this has the most impact on the children. Teachings hard and often thankless – we have to raise each other up because despite it being hard and thankless it can be the most rewarding and fun profession.
